Some things, like vampires and Brady Bunch reunions, can't be extinguished. The so-called Employee Free Choice Act appears to be another eternal entity, but a Republican Congress might be able to put it to sleep. Finally.
Yesterday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told members of the Communications Workers of America, "We are committed in our party and we passed over and over again and we hope that it will be the law of the land soon, the Employee Free Choice Act."
Not only would EFCA as law eliminate workers' right to a secret ballot election, it would discourage businesses from hiring new workers. It could even convince business owners to close their doors.
But the Democrats, who receive almost all of labor's political contributions, only want to see more dues money deducted from paychecks--because that means even more cash ends up in their coffers.
Businesses, particularly small ones, detest EFCA.
And small business do most of the hiring.
Did someone say "recession?"
