Wal-Mart battling the same food deserts Michelle Obama decries

Much of Chicago's South Side is classified as a food desert--an area devoid of supermarkets offering healthy and inexpensive foods. As part of her White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity, First Lady Michelle Obama is calling for the eradication of food deserts.

Meanwhile, in that part of the South Side where her husband worked as a community--and eradicate that food desert.

Last week the retail king and some other employers held a job fair on the South Side. This attendee expressed his concerns about food deserts and wants them irrigated.

"So whether it is Wal-Mart or any other type of stores that are giving us giving us some better types of foods to eat," he explained "so we can have better health for ourselves, because we're not receiving that like we need to."

Unfortunately the Chicago City Council, over Mayor Daley's objections, is blocking that South Side Wal-Mart--it is more interested in placating their union pals rather than serving their constituents.

As for the job fair, over 3,000 attendended. Illinois' unemployment rate is 11.5 percent.
