In a blow to Democratic hopes to keep control of the House of Representatives, House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-WI) announced just a few minutes ago that he will not run for reelection; he has served a mostly-rural northern Wisconsin district for 41 years.
He says he is "bone-tired," but the über-liberal faced a tough challenge from Republican Sean Duffy. Obey's political views are wellto the left of those of his constituents.
Last month Duffy was one of the initial repipients of a Freedom First PAC endorsement, the organization founded by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.
Just as in 1994, Democrats are finding themselves defending real estate that they counted as safely in their column at the beginning of the year.
