Kirk slams Giannoulias over desire to serve on Senate Banking Committee

Alexi Giannoulias, who is defending Roland Burris' US Senate seat for the Democrats, apparently thinks Washington needs another lunatic running the asylum.

His Republican oppponent, Mark Kirk, appeared on WLS-AM's Don Wade & Roma this morning, and he has concerns about one of Giannoulias' goals if hangs on to the Burris seat.

Don Wade (Host): Alexi Giannoulias spoke on Monday at the City Club of Chicago and apparently he was asked whether he would like to serve on the Senate Banking Committee and he said yes. He thinks that he can bring an important perspective on banking issues and lending to communities. You want to react to that?

Congressman Mark Kirk: It's an ironic statement because Alexi Giannoulias presided over the Broadway Bank – now scheduled to fail and be taken over by the FDIC on April 23rd. He also presided over the disastrous college savings Bright Start program that lost over $70 million. And they got a partial refund from the managers that he personally approved, but to get the refund you have to sign a pledge that you would never sue Alexi Giannoulias for your family college savings losses. So now he would like to take that record of financial disasters and serve on the Banking Committee, and I have real concerns about that.
