Kansas congressman: "The Supreme Court should bring Chicago back from the left"

Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) issued a statement this afternoon about Chicago's anti-handgun law. Earlier today the US Supreme Court heard arguments regarding the law's constitutionality.

"The Supreme Court should bring Chicago back from the left," said Tiahrt. "The right to own and use a firearm is a constitutionally protected freedom for all law-abiding American citizens and should not be restricted by local or state governments. The decades-old firearm restrictions we have seen in Chicago are unconstitutional, and I hope the Supreme Court quickly comes to this conclusion so that other local governments around the country are prevented from imitating these dangerous controls. Law-abiding citizens should be able to purchase and possess a firearm so we can protect our families and our property."
