Last night Jim Ryan gave his concession speech at his Election Night event at Harry Caray's restaurant in Lombard. After an emotional introduction by his son Jimmy, Jim gave told his disappointed supporters that he is finally retired from politics.
The former Golden Glove champion put up a good fight, but Ryan was a little short of cash for this final round.
He's a good man, and I'm glad to have been backed his campaign. My only regret is that Jim didn't win.
As for the other Republican candidates for governor, state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, my second choice by the way, clings to a very narrow lead.
Jason Plummer, another downstater, won the nomination for lieutenant governor. I endorsed Plummer.
