On their groundbreaking Sweetheart of the Rodeo, The Byrds did nothing less than invent the country rock genre. Watch and listen as the late band's frontman, Chicago native Roger McGuinn, performs a Woody Guthrie song, "Pretty Boy Floyd."
And there is a Christmas tie-in to the song:
It was in Oklahoma City,
It was on a Christmas Day,
There was a whole car load of groceries
Come with a note to say:
Well, you say that I'm an outlaw,
You say that I'm a thief.
Here's a Christmas dinner
For the families on relief.
At the beginning of the film Public Enemies, Floyd is gunned down by Christian Bale. In real life however, Floyd was killed after John Dillinger left Chicago's Biograph Theater.
