White House worried about Giannoulias Senate candidacy

As the New York Times reports, the White House is worried about keeping the Senate seat currently held by Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich) in the hands of the Democratic Party.

David Axelrod admits it.

Mr. Axelrod concedes that he and Mr. Obama failed to persuade Attorney General Lisa Madigan to run for the Senate seat vacated by Mr. Obama. "She would have walked into the seat," Mr. Axelrod says. White House qualms about the Democratic frontrunner, Alexi Giannoulias, the Illinois treasurer, are self-evident, with worry that the Republican challenger, Representative Mark Kirk, will be needlessly formidable.

I have to believe Lisa Madigan is smart enough to read the tea leaves...
This will not be a good year for democrats. She's secure in her present job and is young enough to wait a few years until the dust settles on the present idiocy, thereby avoiding having a mark in the "lost" column.
Axelrod still doesn't see the writing on the wall.
