EFCA: Is card check still part of the bill?

The Orwellian-named Employee Free Choice Act, among other things would replace secret ballot elections with a "card check" petition drive for workers confronted with the choice of joining a union.

A few months ago, the bill's primary sponsor, Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), said that he is considering dropping the card check portion of the bill. I've been keeping a close eye on this story and I don't believe Harkin has amendeded his bill. Yesterday I had the opportunity to discuss this subject with a Republican friend in Washington, and although he couldn't say for sure, he shares my opinion on the current status of card check.

Government-forced arbitration and the potential for a new unionization drive to be utilized as a tool to bail out failing union pensions are a couple of more reasons why EFCA is bad for business, bad for workers.
