Illinois 2010 Senate race: Schakowsky not running

Several times on this blog I've commented that my congresscritter, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston), is more liberal than President Obama.

Now I'm not so sure. Schakowsky hasn't moderated, it's just that Obama is more extreme than I imagined.

That being said, she's pretty far out there.

Which would have made a US Senate run difficult. But that won't be happening, Schakowsky told CBS 2 Chicago this morning that she plains to remain in the House.

In addition to her far-left views, such as favoring a return of the so-called "fairness doctrine," Sckakowsky's ex-con husband, Robert Creamer, was a campaign advisor to Rod Blagojevich. This would have made great grist for campaign ads by a Schakowsky opponent.

Today's development is bad news for the current occupant of that Senate seat, Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich). His only hope of emerging from next year's Democratic Primary--if he runs--is to ride the African American vote to victory in a crowded field of candidates.
