Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina found hiking on Appalachian Trail

Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina was reported to be missing yesterday. He hadn't been seen since last Thursday, and I guess it says a lot about his management skills that he can go missing for a few days and no one notices.

But I'm sure his wife and kids were wondering where he was, especially on Father's Day.

He was found yesterday hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

Pretty bizarre stuff, unless someone dropped the ball on announcing his absence.

Sanford, who attracted national attention when he said he did not want to accept stimulus funds from the federal government, has been viewed as a potential Republican presidential candidate.

About the photograph: It was taken in the autumn of 2006, in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

"Reports" that he "will return" aren't exactly money in the bank with this guy. No one seems to have actually, you know, what is the word, SPOKEN with the guy.

It does seem awfully strange on the face of it. My guess? He and the wife had a falling out and he left, probably needed a break after the bruising he's taken with the Feds and his Legislature on taking the Fed $$$. Wife's response that she didn't know where he was? Dumb. She should have covered for him, regardless of their personal friction. Her reply was very damaging to him. They're probably close to divorce court.
