Stroger vetoes repeal of Cook County corruption tax

Thanks to Todd Stroger, Chicago and Cook County suburbanites will continue to pay that nation's highest sales tax.

Last year "The Toddler" hiked the county portion of the sales tax so Stroger's friends, relatives, favored contractors and ward-heelers can continue enjoy the generosity of graft-ridden Cook County government.

Rather than announce his decision in front of the Cook County Board Commissioners, Stroger announced his decision on WVON Radio, an outlet friendly to African-American politicians.

That caught the attention of Elizabeth Gorman, a Republican commissioner:

(Stroger) should be at the forefront. He should actually be out here facing the music instead of, you know, at a radio station. That just shows you the lack of communication. By having the media and everybody held at bay all day to figure out where he was going with this.

Instead, Urkel is offering a gradual roll back of the sales tax.

Gradually nothing will happen, in my opinion.

Opponents of the corruption tax need 14 votes to override Stroger's veto--and only 12 voted last week to repeal the Chicago Democrat's despised tax, which is causing problems--as predicted--in communities near the Cook County line.
