Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley topped 11 other candidates to win yesterday's Democratic Primary in the race to decide who succeeds White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel in the Illinois 5th Congressional District.
On the Republican end, Rosanna Pulido, who I endorsed, bested five other GOP entrants.
That's Pulido on the left, the photograph was taken at the Chicago Tea Party last Friday. Oh yes, the Green Party had a contested primary, Mathew Reichel was the winner there.
The general election will take place on April 7.
The Fifth has a checkered history. Emanuel's predecessor was disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich. Dan Rostenkowski, who went to prison in the mid-1990s, also represented the district. Republican Michael Flanagan served the district for one term after defeated "Rosty"
