Yesterday I was in Skokie, so I took another look at the North Shore Channel. Doesn't the water look clean? Well, what you see just is the canal a few yards downstream from where water is released from a Metropolitan Water Reclamation District treatment center. The channel smelled clean too. Like laundry detergent. For real.

Smelled just like a spring rain,
kinda like the Rosemont waterfall
after some prankster(s) dumped
detergent into the water. They had
to drain it out and refill it.
Looks nice and foamy too!
