500 new jobs in Mississippi

Where news of layoffs continue to dominate the news, there is a bit of good news in the Mississippi Hill Country. Aerospace and defense contractor Alliant Techsystems announced today that it is expanding its Iuka plant. Currently the factory employs 175 people, the expansion will add 500 jobs.

Although I missed Iuka, I traveled through this lovely part of the state during My Mississippi Manifest Destiny trip last year.

Iuka is near Corinth, site of a major Civil War battle. The Battle of Corinth was preceded by the Battle of Iuka.

Considering Macy's announced today that it is laying off 7,000 employees, 500 doesn't sound like much. But every little bit helps.
