CBS 2 Chicago's Mike Flannery, a very good political reporter, blows it in his article about the announcement.
Let me fill you in what Flannery should have included in his story. Jarrett, who has worked in the Harold Washington and Richard M. Daley mayoral admiistrations, is the chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Chicago Medical Center. After Barack was sworn in as a senator in 2005, Michelle Obama, who worked for the center, saw her salary almost triple.
But it could be worse for our country. Obama could have named Jarrett Housing and Urban Development secretary. She is the chairman of the Habitat Company, a company which receives public subsidies to build housing for poor people. Habitat managed Grove Parc on Chicago's South Side. Except for the mice and the backed-up sewage, it's mostly abandoned now.
Judicial Watch is not asleep at the switch in regards to Jarrett.
And wouldn't you know there is a Tony Rezko tie-in!
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has obtained documents linking Valerie Jarrett, an advisor to Barack Obama and the co-chairman of the President-Elect's transition team, to a series of real estate scandals, including several housing projects operated by convicted felon and Obama fundraiser/friend Antoin "Tony" Rezko.
According to the documents obtained by Judicial Watch from the Illinois Secretary of State, Valerie Jarrett served as a board member for several organizations that provided funding and support for Chicago housing projects operated by real estate developers and Obama financial backers Rezko and Allison Davis. (Davis is also Obama's former boss.) Jarrett was a member of the Board of Directors for the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation along with several Davis and Rezko associates, as well as the Fund for Community Redevelopment and Revitalization, an organization that worked with Rezko and Davis.
(According to press reports, housing projects operated by Davis and Rezko have been substandard and beset with code violations. The Chicago Sun Times reported that one Rezko-managed housing project was "riddled with problems -- including squalid living conditions...lack of heat, squatters and drug dealers.")

You're kidding right? Who should he appoint as his closest advisers? People he doesn't know?
Were you equally incensed when Bush brought his Texas "cronies" with him to Washington, including Karl Rove, Karen Walsh, Alberto Gonzales, Scott McClellan, Harriet Miers, etc.?
Even with a Democratic Congress, Jarrett, because of her slumlord past, would have trouble getting approval for a cabinet post.
Ronald Reagan did not know James Baker well, yet he named him his first chief of staff.
He was a Texan, not a Californian.
But you didn't answer the question. Do you think Bush should have left all of his Texas cronies (including Karl Rove, who would never have gotten approved for a cabinet position and Harriet Miers, who was the most unqualified nominee for the Supreme Court since Clarence Thomas) in Texas?
