There is more good news for John McCain this morning. Today is a big day for the Arizonan, he's delivering a major foreign policy speech as I write this post.The acrimony of the heated contest for the Democratic nomination, according to a Gallup tracking poll from March 7-22, could be a windfall for McCain.
A sizable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination. This is particularly true for Hillary Clinton supporters, more than a quarter of whom currently say they would vote for McCain if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee.
The poll find that 28 percent of Hillary Clinton would vote for John McCain if Barack Obama wins the Democratic nomination. This is why, in my opinion, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, two states bordering HRC's New York, are in play for McCain.
As for Obama, 19 percent of my senator's supporters says they'll vote for McCain in the general election if Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic nod. Once again, in my opinion, that number could grow if the Al Sharptons and the Jesse Jacksons turn a Hillary win as a stab in the back against the African Americans, the party's most reliable constituency.
