21st century state fair: text messaging contest

The Kansas State Fair is taking note that not everyone, even in rural states, is interested in entering a hog in the "Best of Show" category.

From the Hutchinson News:

There already are goat-milking and grape stomping contests, and one that showcases the great pumpkin, but this year, Kansas State Fair officials are looking for cell phone users with another skill - fast thumbs.

And it wouldn't hurt if you know some lingo, like LOL or WDYT, BTW.

That means "lots of laughs" and "what do you think," "by the way."

Hitting the 21st century - officials plan to launch a cell phone texting contest at this year's 10-day event - just one of the unusual contests the fair has to offer.

Just for fun, they could have another contest to see how well the kids could deal with a 1960's style rotary dial phone.
