Ted Turner "almost done" buying ranches

CNN founder and liberal activist Ted Turner was in Omaha Wednesday to celebrate the renaming of one of his Ted's Montana Grill restaurant. It's now known as Ted's Nebraska Grill.

Turner is the largest private landowner in Nebraska, with over 400,000 acres to his name. Much of that property is in the state's starkly beautiful Sand Hills region, the type of terrain that I found a few years ago in Cherry County.

He's also the largest landowner nationwide, with over 2 million acres to his name.

Perhaps he's running out of money, but he says he's almost done--he wants to buy just 40,000 acres before he quits.

The Omaha World-Herald reports on the suspicions of his Nebraska neighbors, who fear that he may turn his land into a Buffalo park.

One can only wonder what he's up to.
