Glenn & Helen podcast with Hector Qirko

Does it seem that it's a bit of a stretch that there exists an anthropology professor who is also an accomplished recording artist? Is he a character from a forgotten Elvis Presley movie?

Such a man exists. He's Hector Qirko, and he's based in Tennessee, too.

Hector Qirko is a University of Tennessee professor, and he's interviewed by fellow UT prof Glenn Reynolds and his wife, Dr. Helen Smith, for the latest Glenn & Helen Show podcast, where they discuss the music and the music business.

Qirko has played with musicians as diverse as Albert King, Terry Hill, Balboa, and The Lonesome Coyotes.

He's also was a member of Chicago blue artist Lonnie Brooks' band. Based on the mental math I was doing while listening to the podcast during my morning run, I probably saw Qirko perform with Brooks in the early 1980s in Chicago and Champaign, Illinois.

The Hector Qirko band plays a mixture of blues and rockabilly, with a Latin taste.

The podcast is sponsored by Volvo USA.
