Packer backers sack Brownback over Peyton Manning comment

Earlier this evening presidential candidate Sam Brownback (R-KS) made the worst Wisconsin football faux pas since John Kerry's memorable "Lambert Field" slip in 2004.

The Green Bay Packers play in Lambeau Field, not Lambert, as Wisconsinites and football fans quickly reminded Lurch.

Brownback was in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin when he made the mistake of using a football analogy.

From AP:

The Kansas Republican drew boos and groans from the audience at the state Republican Party convention in Lake Geneva this evening when he used a football analogy to talk about the need to rebuild the family.

He said it's fundamental blocking and tackling, like the offensive line in football.

Then he added -- quote -- "If you don't have a line, how many passes can Peyton Manning complete? Greatest quarterback, maybe, in N-F-L history."

The audience was not pleased, Brownback discovered his fumble, and then stated 1960s Packer quarterback Bart Starr was the best ever, but then brought current Packer quarterback into his offensive line analogy.

AP missed one angle. Lake Geneva is just over the border from Illinois, and a lot of Chicagoans have second homes there, or retire in the resort community. Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts unfortunately (for Chicago Bears fans) defeated the Monsters of the Midway in Super Bowl XLI three months ago.
