Chicago Tribune on DePaul's Finkelstein

Finally, a Chicago mainstream media reporter has taken an interest in the Norman G. Finkelstein tenure controversy brewing at DePaul University.

It should be no surprise that the reporter is Ron Grossman, who wrote an excellent piece on Thomas Klocek for the Tribune in late 2005.

An excerpt from Friday's free-registration-required article:

In his books, Finkelstein has called efforts to get compensation for Holocaust victims from Germany a "shakedown." He labels leaders of Jewish organizations "Holocaust-mongers."

Contending the number of survivors has been inflated to scoop up more money, Finkelstein in one book recollects the words of his mother, herself a prisoner of the Nazis:

"'If everybody who claims to be a survivor actually is one,' my mother used to exclaim, 'who did Hitler kill?'"
