New Glenn & Helen Show podcast: Should adolescence be abolished?

Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds and his psychologist wife, Dr. Helen Smith, interview Dr. Robert Epstein, another psychologist.

I clicked on my iPod dreading listening to this podcast, as Epstein is the author of the book, The Case Against Adolescence: Rediscovering the Adult in Every Teen. Great, I thought, another gimmick of the week book.

But I was quite surprised by Epstein's reasoning: The reason adolescents often act immaturely is that society treats them, well, like kids. Teenagers, he says, are smarter than given credit for, and by extending childhood to teens, and even to "kids" in their twenties, we're not helping them out.

Speaking for myself, when I entered college at age 18, I believed I could've handled that challenge three years early: I still think that.

Oh, are you mature? Are you and adult? Find out by taking the Epstein-Dumas Test of Adultness.
