The South Platte River passes through Denver and the Great Plains until it meets the North Platte River in of all places, North Platte, Nebraska. Its source is in the Mosquito Range of the Rocky Mountains. Pictured is the river just before its confluence with Cherry Creek in Colorado's capital city. I suspect the rapids are man-made.
I saw some kayakers--you can rent kayaks at a nearby outlet--this part of the South Platte appears to be a good place for beginners.
Like the North Platte and the Platte, the South Platte is well-known for its shallowness--1.5 deep in some places.
