From Da Tech Guy On DaRadio Blog: Illinois fumbles $127K on worst Super Bowl ad

Lincoln statue,
Dixon, IL
The NFL championship game hasn't even started, but I already have a choice for the worst Super Bowl commercial. Are you ready to see an Abraham Lincoln figurine get crushed by a football? If you are watching the big game in Chicago, the ad will air right before halftime. Or you can see it in my weekly post for Da Tech Guy On DaRadio Blog: Illinois fumbles $127K on worst Super Bowl ad.

(Video) Philip Seymour Hoffman in Liberty! The American Revolution

Philip Seymour Hoffman died today in New York City, of an apparent drug overdose--another great talent who lived a troubled life.

While best known for his roles in such films as Boogie Nights, Capote, and The Master, Hoffman also appeared as Joseph Plumb Martin, a Connecticut Continental Army soldier in PBS' 1997 Liberty! The American Revolution.

Look for the future Oscar winner at 39:50.

Hoffman was 46. Rest in peace.

(Photo) Frozen Des Plaines River with a sepia sky

Two days ago I ascertained that a photograph I took of a nearby old cemetery would look better in black-and-white. But this photograph of the frozen Des Plaines River next to the Oakton Avenue bridge, which I snapped this morning, pretty much came out naturally in B&W--save for the sepia clouds as the sun struggled to come out.

The snow you see is fresh, about two inches of the four we received today had fallen by the time I took this pic.

(Photo) The now-closed Des Plaines Theatre

Yesterday the Daily Herald reported that the Des Plaines Theatre in Des Plaines, Illinois has been closed; the owner has been unable to keep up with modern building code standards. Originally a vaudeville house, more recently the Des Plaines had shown Bollywood films, hosted horror movie festivals, as well as concerts.

The theater opened in 1925.

I took this photograph in December.
