Five murdered and at least 12 others wounded over weekend in Chicago

The first weekend in March saw five murders in Chicago--and at least 12 people were wounded.

But first I want to discuss a deadly shooting from last week.

On Wednesday, the day after Election Day, a Chicago Police officer, Andre Vasquez-Lasso was shot to death by a gang member while the cop was responding to a domestic disturbance. On Election Day, two candidates for mayor, a law-and order advocate, Paul Valles, and a leftist, Brandon Johnson, who supports sending social workers to domestic squabbles, received the most votes.

The victors face off again in four weeks.

Back to the weekend. Of the five homicides, took place in Rogers Park on the North Side. While on the South Side, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing, and Chatham suffered killings. And on the Near West Side, one person was shot to death.
