America's greatest president--and its first Republican president--born on this day in 1809

Abraham Lincoln, America's first Republican president, was born on this day in 1809. He was also America's greatest president.

If by great, you mean using his "phone and pen" like a King to crush 1/2 country's economy, not because he cared about slaves, but only retaliation for his unfair crushing taxes that couldn't be paid. Northern retaliation for England's shift from buying northern textiles to southern cotton to save money and boost their economy, sending the North into a recession. Anti-slavery was gaining and the institution could have been legislated away by the end of his terms with patience if it had been about the slaves. But it was ONLY about money. Lincoln was quoted as saying something to effect that slaves didn't have the sense to care for themselves while he was running for office. So sick of the stupid brainwashing concerning this first president to rip up the Constitution. Ever wonder why he was Obama's favorite president?

The legislation to build the transcontinental railroad was passed during the Lincoln presidency. Same with the Homestead Act. As having slavery "legislated away" what would that entail? A twenty year wait? Let's say you're a 20-year-old slave.
