But Lincoln won California twice! LA Times says Trump is "on track for the poorest showing by a Republican" in California not seen since the Civil War

Not only can't the biased leftist media get the present down right, it can't correctly cover the past. Some goof named David Lauter of the Los Angeles Times writes that President Trump is polling poorly in California, "putting him on track for the poorest showing by a Republican presidential candidate in the state since the Civil War."

A quick internet search shows that America's first Republican president--and arguably its greatest--twice won California in his presidential races. True, Lincoln only won slightly more than 30 percent of the popular vote in the then-Golden State in 1860, but there was a four-way race that year, Lincoln, two Democrats, and a Constitutional Union candidate. Lauter fails to provide context to his story. Fake news? Maybe not, but definitely it is dishonest.

Nationwide, Honest Abe collected just under 40 percent of the popular vote in 1860 but he won a commanding majority of the Electoral College.

Also, the Civil War didn't start until a month after Lincoln's inauguration.

Four years later Lincoln won nearly 60 percent of the popular vote in California and of course he won reelection.

As for the present, George W. Bush and Donald J. Trump proved that a Republican can win the White House without prevailing in California. Of course in the very unlikely event there are four major presidential candidates in 2020, maybe, just maybe, Trump can be victorious there.

In 1912, when the GOP was split, the Republican candidate, incumbent William Howard Taft, couldn't even reach one percent of the California vote as he was a write-in candidate. So Trump is a very safe bet not to have the worst election showing ever for a Republican presidential candidate. Former president Theodore Roosevelt, running as a Progressive that year, collected all 11 of California's electoral votes.

Someone please pass this real news on to Lauter.

But with the media-left it's all about hating Trump. But I'm sure it was a delight for the headline writer to place "Trump" and "Civil War" in the same line.
