On this day in 1918: Battle of Amiens begins

Doughboy Monument,
Morton Grove , IL
It was 100 years ago today when the;Battle of Amien began in France in World War I.

Erich Ludendorff, a top German general, called it "the black day of the German Army."

Tanks were a major factor in the battle. Allied forces gained seven miles of territory, a massive amount of territory in a war where trench warfare was the norm.

It was also the beginning of the One Hundred Days Offensive, which ended with an Allied victory over the Central Powers.
