Former Obama administration attorney general Eric Holder has always been a partisan hack in my opinion. If you have any doubts, I suggest you read his anti-gerrymandering op-ed in the Washington Post. Holder, the only attorney general in history to be held in contempt of Congress, waves his sanctimonious finger at Republican mappers who draw districts in their party's favor. But the leftist has nothing to say of course about Democratic gerrymanders.
Way up on top of this bizarrely-shaped district is the home of US Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL). What you see is Illinois' first congressional district. It reaches from Chicago's South Side, diagonally, into rural Will County. After Boss Michael Madigan's remap and losing one seat to decennial reapportioning, Illinois went from 11 Republican and 8 Democratic seats in Congress in 2010 to 12 Democratic seats and just 6 GOP seats two years later.
With the 2011 remap left-leaning Politico said that Madigan "punched his ticket to the partisan hall of fame."
Maryland is another egregious example of Democratic gerrymandering.
