Had it not been for a couple of incidents in Brighton Park on Chicago's Southwest Side, this past weekend would have gone down as a quiet one in Chiraq.
But early Sunday morning a man was fatally shot there. And later that afternoon, at a vigil for that victim, two more people were murdered and another eight were wounded.
Until that first Brighton Park murder there had only been one homicide in Chicago in May. Now there are seven.
Of the other murders, another one also happened on the Southwest Side--in Vittum Park near Midway Airport. Elsewhere in the city a man was shot to death in Bronzeville on the South Side and in Montclare on the Northwest Side.
At least 26 others were wounded citywide.
