Chiraq Christmas: 11 dead, at least 43 shot over weekend

Death did not take a holiday over the Christmas weekend in Chicago. Eleven people were shot to death and at least 43 others were wounded.

By far the worst incident of carnage happened the Chatham neighborhood on Christmas night when seven people were shot, two fatally. The assailant, who, witnesses says was wearing a grey hoodie, remains at large. Most Chicago homicides go unsolved.

There were also two shooting homicides in the adjacent South Shore neighborhood. The other murders occurred either elsewhere on the South Side or the West Side, save for one South West Side killing in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.

Last year, when Christmas was on a Friday and the weekend was counted as a three-day period, only six people were murdered while thirty were wounded.
