When Star Trek first aired on this date in 1966, few people noticed or cared. A few more did care when it was cancelled after three season. It was seemingly over for Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, but like the Beatles after their break-up--yes, the Fabs were a worldwide phenomenon during their career--the science fiction show entered legendary status after NBC set its phasers on kill on it.
