Chiraq: 1 dead and 1 wounded in daytime driveby shooting on Chicago Skyway

While driveby shootings on expressways aren't unheard of in Chicago, they usually don't occur in the early afternoon.

From ABC 7 Chicago:
The victim, who has been identified as 25-year-old Elliott Brown, was a former De La Salle High School basketball and football star.

According to police, the two victims were driving eastbound on the Skyway into Indiana in a BMW coupe when someone in a black SUV opened fire around 1:30 p.m. Police say the SUV continued driving into Indiana.

Police said a 23-year-old female victim was shot in the left arm and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she is in stable condition. Brown was shot multiple times and killed.
It's believed that the people, according to ABC 7, had "contact prior" to the shooting. The Skyway was shut down for four hours afterwards. The homicide took place just beyond the toll booth pictured above.

So far there today three people have been murdered in Chiraq and nine people have been wounded. All of the shootings have occurred on the South and West Sides.

Earlier this week the Chicago Tribune reported that ten days into the new year, Chicago already suffered 100 more shootings than it did at the same time last year.
