Back in 2007 as Detroit's downward spiral was accelerating, the Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) had this to say about Kwame Kilpatrick as he spoke at the Detroit Economic Club, "I want to first of all acknowledge your great mayor," adding about his fellow Democrat, "We know that he is going to be doing astounding things for many years to come." Obama was right about tke astounding part. The following year Kilpatrick resigned as mayor under a cloud of scandal. He's now serving a 28 year federal sentence for fraud, extortion, perjury, and obstruction of justice.
On Thursday, just days after Obama commuted sentences of 46 prisoners for drug crimes, he will visit the federal penitentiary in El Reno, Oklahoma where Kilpatrick is known as inmate number 44678-039.
He was not a great mayor but perhaps Kilpatrick is a great prisoner.
From my post at Da Tech Guy:
I walked its streets--the tragedy of Detroit.
