The economy: Lost in the desert |
Yes, it's fair and not racist to call Barack Obama
the food stamp president. The new jobless figures were released this morning, and while the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent, the Labor Department reports that a record 92.6 million Americans are not participants in the work force. And there is a cost for that, as Rob Port explains in his
SayAnything blog. "Every person not in the labor force," he writes, "is a person who isn't paying payroll taxes to support programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security which combined make up more than 70 percent of the federal budget."
That's a huge problem.
