The Obama administration is proposing tougher safety rules for trains hauling oil. The new regulations, at first glance, seem reasonable. But a better way to lessen fiery petroleum accidents would be to ship less oil on our rails. Building the Keystone XL pipeline would be one such remedy. Because President Obama is more interested in kowtowing to environmentalist donors than bringing oil from our friends in Canada, his five years of dithering on Keystone continues.
Regular gasoline is selling for just under $4-per-gallon where I live, which is more than double what it was when Obama was sworn into office.
