Illinois flag on right |
From the Washington Examiner:
Five years ago, Harris was an unpretentious Illinois homemaker with no background in political activism when the SEIU knocked on her front door in an attempt to get her to join the union.Harris cares for her adult son at her own home. Quinn's move was a brazen attempt to pick the pockets of caregivers of modest circumstances with the goal of stuffing the coffers of the Service Employees Union with dues--some of which would of course end up in the campaign war chests of Democratic politicians.
She participates in a state-funded home caregiver program for the mentally disabled that Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat, had recently declared eligible for collective bargaining.
She said no, but the state and SEIU refused to take that for an answer. Both assumed that she could be prodded into joining.
The tough mom won in the Supreme Court. Quinn lost.
As long as people like Pam Harris live in Illinois there is hope for this state.
