ILSen: Truax expresses skepticism on state pension deal

Businessman and West Point graduate Doug Truax is running Republican nomination for the US Senate seat presently occupied by lifetime politician Dick Durbin. Yesterday he weighed in on the cloak-and-dagger deal to possibly fix Illinois' worst-funded-in-the-nation public pension system.

From a Truax press release:
I normally wouldn't weigh in on a state issue, but the pending pension deal is so pivotal to our state's financial future I will make an exception.

I fully distrust any monumental fiscal legislation that only is unveiled to the public on the eve of a vote. And, for good reason, I generally distrust the Democratic leadership that for years has run our state's finances into the ground to the detriment of Illinois families.

My major concern from what has been published is that the agreement appears to make it much more likely that temporary tax increases will be made permanent and new increases will be forthcoming. Middle class citizens in Illinois who pay the bills cannot take further body blows to their finances because of fiscal mismanagement from the political class. We understand state Senator Jim Oberweis is leaning toward supporting this bill on Tuesday. We hope he reconsiders and protects taxpayers first instead of the insiders in Springfield.
Political gadfly Oberweis is also a candidate for the GOP nomination. The Land of Lincoln needs new voices--not Durbin, not "Obi."
