Illinois' inept governor, Pat Quinn, declared on April 20, 2012 that he was "put on earth" to fix the state's woefully underfunded pensions.
Do you know what? The $100 billion-in-the-hole pension system is still broken 561 days later.
And the Chicago Democrat is probably nervously watching the Detroit bankruptcy case--which may decide if public employee pensions are in fact protected by state constitutions. While states--even borderline insolvent Illinois--cannot declare bankruptcy, what is decided in Michigan may have a big impact on the Land of Lincoln and many of its towns and cities.
In other news, another confused Chicago Democrat, state Senate President John Cullerton, said last month that the pension disaster is not a crisis.
Meanwhile, Earth is waiting on you Quinn.
Or maybe the planet just doesn't care about Rod Blagojevich's two-time running mate.
And finally, Illinois has the nation's second-highest unemployment rate.
This stuff does matter.
