On this day in 1987: "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

America's greatest 20th century president, Ronald Reagan, gave one of his greatest speeches on June 12, 1987 in front of the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall.

It was then that he uttered his famous command, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

Twenty-one years later, Senator Barack Obama had the gall to give a speech on in front of that gate. But for once his ego was kept in check, the now-scandal plagued president settled for a 19th century war memorial to emit his platitudes.

Does anyone remember what he said that day? No.

Of course by 1990, the people of Berlin tore down that wall.  Portions of it still exist, including a piece at Eureka College, the Gipper's alma mater.
