In a Washington Post op-ed linked by the Drudge Report, Mayor Rahm Emanuel pointed to his perceived success in Chicago a roadmap for nationwide Democratic success--the missive is titled, "How to Rebuild America."
But "the Tiny Dancer" neglected to mention how Illinois' state government entered fiscal 2013 with $8 billion in unpaid bills. It will leave fiscal 2013 with $8 billion in unpaid bills.
A year earlier the Democratic-controlled General Assembly passed a "temporary" 67 percent hike on the personal income tax rate--corporate income taxes were increased by only 46 percent. Governor Pat Quinn, also a Democrat, immediately signed the higher rates into law.
Illinois' unfunded pension obligations are just short of $100 billion. Of the fifty states, only California has a lower credit rating.
Not only has the governor's office been held by a Democrat since 2003, but the leaders of both chambers of the General Assembly have been Democrats since then. Even longer for the House.
And not just any Democrats---Chicago Democrats!
One more item: The number of murders in Chicago is up 25 percent from last year.
