I found this yellow-rumped warbler clinging to an office building yesterday morning in Highland Park, Illinois. The spring and summer range for this species is mainly in Canada and the American West. It winters in the southern United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America. So it's very likely this bird--sporting fall plumage--is in the middle of its migration south.
Highland Park borders Lake Michigan and America's largest lake is a well-traveled migratory route for birds.
