Bob Seger: Turn The Page

GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?

GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.

GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.

From The Return of the King.

Earlier this week my friend Dave Logan, ThirdWaveDave, left us. He was a big fan of my many travel series and he enjoyed Bob Seger music. So I thought this Seger song about being on the road, "Turn the Page," is an appropriate choice for this week's Saturday Musical Selection.

As for the picture, Dave believed he was related to John A. Logan, an Illinois congressman, senator, and governor who was instrumental in solidifying Union support in the far-southern part of the state in when the Civil War broke out--many of the original settlers there traced their roots to Tennessee and Kentucky. Some people also credit Logan for the founding of Memorial Day. The street sign pictured above is from the old Fort Sheridan in Highwood, Illinois. The other side of the sign reads Patten Road. It was not named for ThirdWaveDave's hero, George S. Patton--note the spelling difference--but Fort Sheridan was the first post "Old Blood and Guts" was assigned to after graduating from West Point.
