(Photos and video) 2012 Morton Grove July 4th parade

Despite record-tying heat--the temperature reached 102 degrees this afternoon--the annual Morton Grove, Illinois July 4th parade commenced as scheduled.

There is no better place to start than with the Morton Grove American Legion.

A patriotic Morton Grove man seeks some shade.

The Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps traveled from LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

For this camel, today might have been a cool day.

Vincent M. Romano is the Republican candidate for state representative in the 16th District, part of which is in Morton Grove.

These are the Jesse White Tumblers. Illinois' secretary of state is Jesse White, a Democrat.

The Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps is from Toledo, Ohio.

This wonder of the mechanical age occasionally sprayed water on the sweltering parade watchers.

This performer is a member of Chicago's Renacer Boliviano Dance Troupe.

The Medinah Shriners were an integral part of today's parade. They are riding flying carpets.

Another Independence Day patriot. Notice the bald eagle slippers--which I overlooked when I snapped this photo.

One of the Medinah Aviators.

It had to have been brutally hot inside that costume.

Participants celebrated in many ways.

There were many Medinah Shriners motorcycles in the parade--this was the baddest of them all.

Yes, united we stand.

Morton Grove's youngest patriot.

And finally, the video.
