Cybersecurity Act coming to a vote soon

A House vote on CISPA may come today or tomorrow. I don't see what the fuss is in regards to opposition to it. Here's what Broadband USA says about it.

Cyber attacks, from both foreign and domestic sources, threaten American networks daily. Major businesses and large government systems are monitored constantly to detect and stop attacks. Protecting our nation’s networks against cyber threats and ensuring the security of our cyber space is a national imperative.

In the coming weeks, the House of Representatives will be considering several cybersecurity measures to help achieve the goal of enhancing the nation's cyber defense capabilities, beginning with the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (H.R. 3523) on Thursday.

When considering these key legislative proposals, Congress should recognize the importance of providing those on the frontline of cybersecurity –the broadband providers – with the flexibility they need to respond effectively to urgent cyber threats.

Broadband for America supports the goal of promoting a national framework for cyber security that both enhances our economic and national security infrastructures and prevents terrorist attacks. In order to enhance the nation's cyber security capabilities, Congress needs to:

· Rely on government-industry partnerships rather than top-town regulations.
· Ensure that providers have the tools they need to detect and respond to cyber threats.
· Recognize that broadband cyber defense efforts should include all relevant stakeholders.
· Improve the government’s own cyber security posture by updating the 2002 Federal Information Security.
