Kevin McCarthy |
Last week Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), the Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-WA), the House Majority Whip, held a bloggers' conference call about the new app. After some brief remarks, McMorris Rodgers commented, "And at a time when many in America see Congress as not listening, as not being responsive, as thinking that they know better, it really allows us--as a representative--to talk directly to the people we represent."
McCarthy added, "A year ago when the Democrats were in control, bills would come to the floor and members didn't even have a chance to read them." There is now a three day rule on bills, part of the Republicans' Pledge to America. If you find something of interest on the app--you can send it to social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
The new app and what can be done with it is an item that McCarthy classifies as something "that is the fundamental difference between a Congress controlled by (Nancy) Pelosi and a Congress controlled by the people of the United States."
The app was released last week, there were 28,000 downloads of it in its first 24 hours of availability, McCarthy said.
I have the app on my Android device--it works great, although, there isn't much good news today from Washington because of the super failure of the super committee.
To download the app, just go to the marketplace on your device and enter "WhipCast" into the search box.
