George Allen 9/11 statement

Former Virginia Senator George Allen, who is running to regain his seat, issued a statement about the 9/11 attacks.

Having experienced the evacuation of the Capitol the morning of 9/11, seeing the billowing smoke from the Pentagon and then returning that evening to the Capitol steps to sing God Bless America, those vivid remembrances will be at the forefront of my mind today as we remember our friends, neighbors and all who we lost on that horrific day as we continue to stand strong and resolute for freedom and justice. The attacks on September 11th changed our nation, touching every American and the way we appreciate life in America and look at the world. Today, on the 10thAnniversary of those attacks, we remember with heavy hearts the more than 3,000 Americans who lost their lives. And we honor the tremendous courage of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to help others in need.

The attacks by these vile, hate-filled terrorists were an attempt to divide and break the spirit and ideals of our country. Instead we saw the best of America – the strong will and courage of her united people. While our American family was wounded on September 11th, we were not broken.

We will always remember those moments in each of our lives, the direction of our country and the loss that we suffered together as a nation. My thoughts and prayers are with the men and women in our armed forces who lost their lives taking the fight to the terrorists and their sponsors, as well as those who continue to bravely serve overseas. The selfless devotion of our military, law enforcement, firefighters, intelligence and all security personnel who are protecting our freedom is why we are a more vigilant and safer nation today.

Freedom will endure! America will always be the beacon for all freedom-loving people in the world.
