Obama's taxpayer-funded Midwest campaign tour begins Monday

Mississippi River north of Davenport, IA
In an attempt to shore up his shaky support in the rural Midwest, President Obama will begin a three day bus tour in Cannon Falls, Minnesota on Monday. Other stops will include the Iowa towns of Decorah and Peosta, and two Illinois stops, Alpha and Atkinson in northwestern Illinois.

This overtly political trip is being paid for by taxpayers. Although billed as an opportunity for Obama to discuss the economy, the swing state junket will consist of Obama flying to Minnesota on Air Force One, and if his entourage is like what I witnessed two weeks ago in Chicago, this modest bus tour will be accompanied by two dozen vehicles--police cars and motorcycles, SUVs, and vans.

I said swing state junket, but what about the Illinois stops? Both of the towns blessed by Obama are within the Quad Cities media market, so Davenport and Bettendorf residents on the Iowa side of the Mississippi can be fed Cult of Change propaganda by local reporters.

Here's what Reuters says about the tour: "There are no plans for a major policy speech to roll out new initiatives for growth." While bus tours are commonly used by presidential candidates, they are rarely used by presidents.

Waste of time. Waste of taxpayer dollars.
