Yes, I do take an occasional peek at far-left publications, such as Truthout. Self-described populist Jim Hightower, who I never heard of until he donned a hog-necktie when he endorsed Jesse Jackson for president in 1988, rips Governor Rick Perry in a Truthout opinion piece. He criticizes the governor's fundraising prowess, but Hightower neglects to mention that three of his aides during his time as Texas agriculture commissioner, Mike Moeller, Peter McRae and Billie Quicksall, were convicted of bribery charges involving of all things, fundraising for their boss.
Nor does Hightower tell his readers that Perry defeated him when he sought a third term as commissioner.
Despite his lofty surname, Hightower is a little man.
The better candidate won in 1990.
